There are so many beautiful photos taken on Hui Xian’s Langkawi trip by Jon and her that I just love the scrap them. Here’s one I did yesterday:

Hui Xian told me these were one of the last photos taken with all the girls after they berthed in Penang Jetty, before parents started picking them home and her new Filipinos friends were scheduled to fly that evening.

Layout:
I used Christina Bartholomew’s 10,000 Leagues Page Set.

The title is definitely true because Hui Xian just finished the last piece of Christmas chocolate one May 1st, more than 5 months after our big celebration. This was due to the many parcels from friends and relatives at Christmas so we simply have to freeze some. Come to think of that, she still has a bottle of children champagne from last new year toss off!

I made sure we take some photos because I knew I was going to scrap a layout for my in-laws who sent Hui Xian this snowman. Of course Tobie wanted a bite too but bratty Hui Xian would only give her a teeny weeny bit, enough to get a glimpse of what the real good thing tasted like! 😛 She ate is really slow and when she was done, rubbed her tummy and wished the snowman bye-bye! My funny girl!

Layout:
Coffee with Oma – background paper and frames
Girlfriends Page Set – paper, swirls, heart, ribbons, buttons
Water Park Page Set – green beads
Font: Chiquita Banana

There is a Font Challenge at Scrapbook-Elements featuring the Chiquita Banana Font. Designer Arlene Santos is sponsoring a gift for anyone posting a layout to this challenge. My layout is going into this challenge, so if you are interested there is still time until end of June to get a layout done. Click Font Challenge Gallery to view what others have done.

Ever since I could remember, I have always been intrigued by the art of sewing flowers using gold or silver thread. This form of fine art work is usually found in jewels with intricate twist of threads to form beautiful pieces. Filigree can also be found in the ‘kebayas’ (traditional Malays costumes) as well as those worn by my ancestors the Chinese Peranakans (Baby & Nyonya). I remembered watching my late aunt painstakingly hand stitched flower motifs on the lapels of the kebaya and she would have many standing orders because her handiwork was very well known.

Today, by painstakingly drawing by hand flower motifs of this century old art, I am bringing it back on canvas – to be used in digital scrapbook layouts that need the extra elegant touch of gold or silver with a feminine touch. Each set consists of 7 flower motifs with 2 different types of gold and silver threading. Below are sample previews of my designs. Click on links for more information and pricing.

This week Scripture Challenge by Rina Kroes at Scrapbook-Elements is just what I needed to make several Father’s Day layouts for friends and family. On top of that, she will be giving out parts of her kits when you post in the gallery and send her the link. It’s a weekly challenge with different scriptures word art created by her.

Here’s my layout for this week challenge:

Dedicated to Jojo, a friend with 5 beautiful children and husband to Ida. Photo taken of him and Sabina at CoffeeBean after sending our kids off to their Youth Camp recently. Jojo and Ida have I think the most well behaved, articulated and responsible kids I’ve the chance to meet and it’s great to know we can send our bratty Hui Xian every Saturday to hang out with them. Maybe some of their good qualities will rub off on her! LOL Ida… do you hear that?! I’m sure Hui Xian will make a fuss when she reads this but I’m taking the chance that she might skip this altogether!

Layout:
Main photo by me while the kids’ photo at the bottom is from Ida’s gallery.
I used my Coffee with Oma Page Set. Paper has been recolored to match layout.
Tags and hearts from Always in My Heart.
Scriptures from Rina Kroes.

Back to my family-
We sent Hui Xian to meet her friends for Fantastic 4 movie in the afternoon (Thanks Simone for giving off your ticket to her). Before that we had our lunch at Chili’s, the recently opened branch in Penang. Met the COO and had a chat there and promised to meet him when we go to Kuala Lumpur again. It was chilly inside the restaurant and they haven’t had their permit for alcohol license yet so I’m missing their famous frozen Margaritas. Went to the opposite joint for the ahem… good things in life and met some friends…one thing led to another and just when we went back to Chilli’s for our dinner, Hui Xian called to be picked up. Oh well… DH went to fetch her and in the rain too so he wasn’t too pleased when he had to fight his way through the heavy traffic and horrible driving style here in Malaysia. LOL Poor guy looked as if he could kill someone when he got back to his very cold burger!

When it poured, it was really heavy with strong winds and the rain splashing into our former joint. After saying good bye to our friends, we headed home and continued the rest of the night with Absolute Vodka on the rocks with lime. Yummilicious drink but lethal when I want to continue my designing! At 1:00am the family and of course our cat and dog gathered in my bedroom and watched Formula 1 qualifying. Race was at Indianapolis, USA. Went straight to bed after this late night.

Sunday, being Father’s Day, we went out to lunch and since I have to finish my designs, I went straight to work until late afternoon. Prepared dinner for the family. I cooked baked fish with chili filling, steamed vegetables and egg sambal (roasted chili paste). I thought Hui Xian won’t like fish because she had been refusing to eat it but at dinner she and DH cleaned up good this 1kg seabass. Sorry Curl… no leftovers for our cat so he had to resort to the can again. 😛

In total, DH celebrated Father’s Day twice; first on ‘Corpus Christi’ a Catholic Holiday and much celebrated in Germany and another one here last Sunday. Double the fun, double the celebration! LOL

I’m participating in Scrapbook-Elements June Title Take Challenge ‘Hot Fun in the Summertime’ with posting prize sponsored by Tracey Monette. It seems an idle opportunity to work on more layouts of this theme since Hui Xian just came back from her Island Hopping Youth Camp with tons of great photos to scrap with.

Here’s my layout:
Hot Fun in the Summertime:

Journal reads:
“The boat trip from the main island of Langkawi was filled with laughter and an eagerness for adventure. Here they berthed on one of the islands south of Langkawi and jumped straight into this largest lake in the island called ‘Lake of the Pregnant Maiden’. The name is derived from the outline of hills and rocky outcrops on one side of the lake that resembles the shape of a pregnant maiden lying on her back. However, the name of both the island and the lake is attributed to the legend of a lovely fairy princess who married an earthly prince. Her first child died shortly after birth. She was so sad and depressed that she buried the child in the crystal clear waters of the lake. Before she returned to her celestial abode, she blessed the waters so that any childless maiden who bathed in the lake would conceive thereafter. This is a great place to relax and rejuvenate while listening to this centuries old tale.

Layout:
I used my ‘Water Park Page Set‘ and photo frame by Kim Hollibone which has been recolored to match the layout.
Thanks for looking.

For the first time in her 13 years, I watched my daughter boarded a bus with her friends on her first camping trip away from home. There was a lump in my throat when I saw her so happy and waving us goodbye. The night before she asked me if I was going to miss her as if sensing my dilemma and I told her I will pay her a visit if I cannot bear it. It wasn’t as if she hasn’t gone for weeks away from me but there was her dad with her but this time it would be different. I think I am getting a glimpse of what it would feel like when she finally spread her wings as she gets older. Oh bummer! =(

Her trip was a success. She called about twice a day (though not often enough LOL) telling us her day and how fun it was. They stayed in a resort hotel and she shared room with her friends, Nicole and Simone. There were many interesting activities beside their routine church service. They went swimming in the pool and beach, islands hopping and jumping into a fresh water lake which was so close to the sea separated by just a tiny strip of land, watching sea eagles feed which by the way is the national symbol of the island consisted of 104 islets. She came back tanned, tired and hungry.

I was so happy when she showed me photos of what she had taken on her trip. Gone were the days when all I would see were faces with just a glance of what could be a place of interest! She took many nature photos and friends playing on the sandy beach. As I made these two layouts for her, I get to listen endlessly of what each one did and not do! My ears are still drumming from her non-stop chatter and I wonder if sending her away again would give me peace. Alas, as soon as this thought comes I have to realize much as I love for her to experience all the world has to offer, I know I will miss her chattering and vibrant personality if she is away from me. So I’m keeping her close to me today and make her my baby girl until another trip……..

Here are two layouts of her Langkawi trip:
Beach Babes:

Beach Frisbee:

Both layouts are done using my Water Park Page Set.
Thanks for reading.
