L’il Snuffles

DH left for a meeting last Sunday and a few minutes later he called. Said there was something for both of us! He came back with a very wet kitten, shivering and appeared to be in a shock. He didn’t have time to tell us what happened and drove away immediately for his meeting. Hui Xian and I wrapped this tiny kitten in an old towel and I cuddled it for body warmth because it was a cold day having rained non-stop for the past couple of days. As soon as it was warmed up, this kitten still refused to eat. I was worried- having lost a very sick rescued kitten a few months back, I didn’t want this helpless little one to have the same fate. 😦

I reckoned the best I could do is to keep the kitten warm until it settled down. When DH came back he told us what happened. He was driving out to the main road when he spotted 2 kittens in the middle of the road. Since it was raining, he almost didn’t see it and risked running them over. When he went out to investigate, he found one of the kittens already dead and the other one in shocked. He picked the kitten and brought it struggling back to the car. We don’t believe the kittens had wandered out into the busy road and especially not in a heavy rain. Someone must have thrown them there. It was surely a death sentence for both if not for DH timely arrival. It was too bad that the other kitten had to die.

Hui Xian gave us two names – Snuffles or RoadKill! o_0 As if we have a choice there! LOL I took to mothering the kitten. I think it’s about one month old. We went to the pet shop and bought milk formula and bottle since it refused to eat any solid food. It took well to the milk and that meant waking up every 4 hours to bottle feed it. We also bought a pack of cat litter but somehow during a quick cleaning up, DH must have thrown the pack away. We had to buy a new one the next day! LOL I introduced it to soaked cat food a few days later and everything seemed alright until Friday when he started to get diarrhea. Boy oh boy… talk about cleaning poo. Suffice to say Hui Xian had been so helpful and we managed to get him cleaned up plus some scratches on my hands. We had to wait for our vet to come back from his field trip so it was late afternoon when he saw the poor kitten. Injection and some medication, Snuffles had it bad until the medicine started working. I was worried. Bundled him up in a makeshift diaper and wrapped in an old towel, I cuddled him as he slept. By 5:00am he woke up and I brought him to his litter box. The diarrhea has finally stopped! Phew! What a relief. I put him back in his cage and went for my much needed sleep.

The next day, it was like a brand new kitty! Ate a great helping of food as if so starved and running everywhere like a bullet train. One minute it was next to me, the next we had to hunt him down for fear he will scratch the furniture or worst… poo on the carpets! Today exactly 8 days from the tiny, wet kitten, Snuffles has grown bigger with a round stomach and a confidence of a ‘Giant’. He thinks attacking our dog, Tobie is fun and irritating Curl, our cat is playing dangerously. Thank goodness our furry babies accepted him in the family. He is so attached to DH, preferring to sleep next to him rather than anyone of us. Guess… he knows his rescuer. DH who always complains that he comes in last after our furry babies now will carry this kitty into his office and placed a baby blanket on his desk so Snuffles could sleep there while he works. Then when DH goes to bed for a rest or watching TV, Snuffles will join him there. We are told to be quiet and make sure I draw the curtain shut so this little monster could sleep in a dark. Wonder who’s SPOILING the cat NOW!

Here’s a look of Snuffles today. He thinks attacking my aloe vera plant is fun. My ferns are in a mess because of him. Oh well…

CUTE enough to Eat

This is the title for my latest layout using Mikki Livanos’ template at Hooked on Template Challenge Week 8 in Scrapbook-Elements.

Cute enough to Eat:

Hui Xian has always love big, cute, cuddly toys, the bigger the better. She never fails to stop us at the mall begging us with her puppy dog frowns to please buy her another one. The layout above showed us walking by this all pink accessories shop and she went inside immediately without telling anyone. Luckily I was behind her because the rest of the troops were already way ahead of us. Found her cuddling a very cute gingerbread man and of course the begging started which included puppy dog frowns and battling of eye lashes! o_0 When every effort failed to get me to buy her that or at least talk to her dad (chances are high da-da will buy it for her!) she tried to eat the toy. Said, ‘It’s CUTE enough to eat!’ hence the title. And nope… she begged her dad later on but he didn’t approved. 🙂

Hui Xian has just too many toys in her collection. The photo on the left is just a small portion of them. There are a 12 foot long snake and a huge sized tiger her dad bought her which are still in Germany. These two are kept in a storage facilities which include other toys as well. We only consented to the collection she has currently because we can packed into 2 giant boxes when we move. Each toy has a story to tell, some as old as she is and they have been picked up from different parts of the world. For instance the Garfield is from Seoul, S. Korea, Mickey Mouse was one of her first toy she carried along when she was a toddler, Sylvester came from Australia, there’s this pink bunny at the top left which was given to her by a Qatari boy who liked her a lot and was following her everywhere like a puppy, purple birdie from a friend in San Francisco, and there is Winnie the Pooh in pyjama. This friend actually sewed Hui Xian’s name on it. There is a Papa Bear and Mama Bear ~ 2 huge bears and heavy too. Papa bear sleeps in her bed at night including Crocky the green crocodile and a lot more. Curl, our cat included! LOL

There are many more stories to tell and these toys carry a lot of precious memory for our girl. Every now and then a small parcel arrive with another cute toy for her and soon the 2 boxes for storage won’t be enough anymore because surely Hui Xian won’t let anyone of them go. The cute Gingerbread man is adorable. I might just get that for her Christmas… 😉

Baby Brag Book

Okay…. so it is 13 years later that I started to make a baby brag book album for Hui Xian. 😉 I have just a few precious collection as most of them were lost in our years of travels =( and some in corrupted hard discs. We were given an estimated of US$1000-1500 to repair each hard disc and we have 2! I’ll have to work doubly hard to sell my designs in order to do that! 😛

I’ve been busy working on several albums; a baby brag book for Hui Xian, a travel album and a wedding. Below are 3 layouts of Hui Xian. These are in 6″x4″, easy to print with your home printer but I am sending them over to Shutterfly to get a hard cover album done.

This was Hui Xian barely a month old. She has a full head of hair and slept through the night. Taking care of her was a breeze but of course we had our traditional confinement lady who took care of her bathing and cleaning up during the day. Hui Xian was a good baby. Our Hong Kong neighbors didn’t realized we had a baby in the house until they saw her months later.

Journaling reads,
“You were barely a year old when we visited my grandmother. The flight from Singapore with Pelangi Air in a small Fokker 28 was an unnerving experience for me but you took it like a pro. Everyone was so happy to see you but you were more interested to pull the curtain down. You were such a cutie then and even your dress matched my aunt’s bedroom.”

This layout brought back a lot of memories of her playing ‘masak-masak’ with her teapot set. She would play for hours and love serving us. However it had to be either apple or orange juice and sometimes for da-da, cold coffee. She wouldn’t want just plain water! I miss this toddler stage but then again I wouldn’t want to be stuck changing diapers ever! That is another story to be told…..
